Digital Leaders

December 13, 2019Jo Hussain

Our Digital Leaders have enjoyed sharing their knowledge of coding with their classmates this week. They spent the whole afternoon coding using Microbit. They had been previously trained on how to set up the equipment and how to explore its features. It was a really successful session as the children worked collaboratively and learnt from…

Grand Finale

December 13, 2019Jo Hussain

Class 1 children welcomed parents and grandparents into school this week to look at their work they have completed on World War 2. This included a wide range of writing, drawing, information text and the incredible Anderson shelters, they have built as part of a homework project. The children were given a brief and a…

Election fever at Cockwood School

December 13, 2019Jo Hussain

After participating in Parliament Week, the children were really interested to find out more about the different local candidates and parties taking part in the General Election. They brought in lots of leaflets from home and we analysed the text, layout, pledges, facts and figures.  We decided to run our own mock General Election and…

Forest School Update

November 25, 2019Jo Hussain

Despite the weather, freezing cold or pouring rain, Class 1 are enjoying their Forest School sessions. So far they have: learnt the safety rules of lighting a fire, identified mushrooms using a key, made lanterns and leaf rubbings, made slingshots and learnt a range of knots to secure a tarpaulin.

Remembrance Day

November 14, 2019Jo Hussain

This week we welcomed the Reverend Richard into school to mark Remembrance Day with all the children. We stood in the playground and honoured the two minute silence before he took an interesting assembly about the work of the British Legion and the symbolism of wearing a poppy.

Harvest 2019

October 17, 2019Jo Hussain

The children performed a lovely harvest celebration at the church, where they told the story of Noah, sang amazing songs and reflected on how we need to think carefully about our wonderful world. The rainbow harvest was enjoyed by parents and our new vicar, the Reverend Richard Allen, who thought the children were amazing.

October 16, 2019Jo Hussain

This term Class 1 have been learning all about World War 2: the causes and effects, the key people involved and how it affected the lives of British citizens. To give us a better understanding we visited Bovington Tank Museum in Dorset. Pupils dressed up as soldiers and were able to handle various artefacts. The…

Another great competition was held this year and the talent was amazing! Our Judges Dan Fowell, Jo Trixon, Mel Wolden and special guest judge Spilkey Walliams enjoyed watching all the acts.

Sports Day 2019

July 3, 2019Jo Hussain

We had a wonderful afternoon enjoying our Sports Day on the village green. The children were amazing, as they competed against each other in a huge variety of races and events. Thank you to all of the families who joined us to make the afternoon so enjoyable.

Les fruits!

June 2, 2019Jo Hussain

Class 1 learnt the names of fruit in French by tasting different fruits and making games using fruit names. We learnt to make simple phrases and sentences in French describing foods we like and do not like, extending sentences where we could, adding conjunctions and adjectives we know. J’aime une pomme rouge mais je n’aime…
