As part of our commitment to high quality arts education we are always striving for ways to enagage with our pupils following a very cultural sculpture walk we wanted to psuh the boundaries and look at a totally different art-form…Urban Street Art- Graffitti. We invited a graffitti artist into school to work alongside some year 5 and 6 children to create an artistic masterpiece on our very tired looking P.E. shed. Josh totally amazed pupils and staff as he quickly set to work sketching out a design. It was a fantastic opportunity for the children to see how a piece of art develops over time and how it is layered from a basic outline to the finished design. After discussion with staff and pupils it was decided an Olympics theme and the Olympic motto would inspire Cockwood children for many years to come. Class 3 have been making outfits in Design technology for mascots so the official Olympic mascots were incorporated into the deisgn.
We would like to say thank you to the PFA who funded the materials and a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Josh for giving up an entire day to come and show the children that art can be ‘cool’!
