No Irish topic would be complete without delving into Irish music and dance! At the start of the term, our class explored footage of lots of traditional Irish music and dance. Mrs Carter, a music specialist teacher who plays in a céilí band, came in to class 1 for an afternoon and did an Irish music workshop. The children learnt about traditional Irish instruments, distinctive features of Irish music and learnt to sing some folk songs. They then formed their own folk bands, choosing instruments and then working in groups to compose and perform their own music.
We are currently doing Irish dancing as our daily physical exercise each morning, learning lots of new steps and traditional set dances. Even Michael Flatley would be impressed with our class céilís! Alice and Olivia were particularly inspired by our daily dancing, not only have they both been enthusiastic and excellent at picking up new steps, they also chose to do their mid-term mini projects on Irish dancing and confidently presented two brilliant powerpoint presentations to the class last Friday; well done girls!
