Last Friday (4th October), our class learnt about traditional Irish food and drink, thanks to a fantastic, interactive presentation by Imogen. She prepared a selection of tasty treats for the class to enjoy, including some Irish butter and cheeses, soda bread, potato farls and delicious home made barmbrack. (Halloween Brack traditionally contains various objects baked into
the bread and is used as a sort of fortune-telling game. In keeping with this tradition Imogen baked a ring into the brack; Mia discovered this in her slice, which apparently means that she will be married within a year!! )
We learnt lots of fascinating facts about Irish food, such as the fact that Ireland produces more than 140 varieties of cheese! The class all enjoyed having the chance to taste test some Irish food, although there were mixed reviews on the taste, some finding it delicious, while others were not quite as keen!
Thank you to Imogen and family for putting so much effort into the preparation and providing a fun, authentic experience for the whole class! Next week our cook Sally will give the class a further opportunity to sample Irish cuisine, with an Irish-themed school dinner of bacon and colcannon (mash and cabbage) – yummy!
