Class 2 really enjoyed their visit to the solar farm. They learnt how solar panels turned light energy into electricity; why solar panels always face south and why using sustainable energy is really important to help stop climate change. After thr trip Dr Jackson came back to school to lead a workshop learning about light. The children were given mini solar panels and voltmeters to see who could generate the most electricity. The children then used fibre optic lights to show how light travels in a straight line. The best part was when the children were given diffraction glasses to show that white light is made up of lots of different colours (called a spectrum) and everything in the room turned into rainbows.
