Yesterday, our Year 5 girls attended a STEM workshop run by The Detective Project; they investigated a crime scene and completed a range of practical activities including: fingerprinting, DNA, marks and fibres and evidence collection.
It gave them a fantastic science-based introduction to the work of crime scene officers, forensic investigators and the forensic procedure. The scene was based around a suspicious death and as a team that had to establish the identity of the ‘victim’ and decide what they think happened. The real story was then revealed at the end of the session.
Feedback from the school was very positive, they commented on our girls, ‘they were wonderfully polite and enthusiastic – keen to get stuck in’.
A wonderful opportunity and one we hope to take part in again next year.
