What an incredible week we’ve had at Cockwood Primary! We are absolutely bursting with pride as we reflect on our ‘We Are Cockwood – We Are Ivy’ Volunteering and Community Week, which has brought together all eight Ivy Trust Schools across Teignbridge in a wonderful celebration of community spirit.
Each day brought something special. Our youngest pupils in EYFS and Year 1 kicked us off beautifully on Monday with their beach clean at Dawlish Warren, while our whole school assembly focused on supporting the RSPCA – such important work for our little ones to understand. Tuesday saw Class 2 roll up their sleeves to weed the churchyard at St Mary’s Church in Cofton, showing real dedication to caring for our local heritage.
Wednesday was particularly magical as a group of our children joined the Ivy Music Event, performing alongside choirs from across our trust to entertain the wider community. The joy on their faces was absolutely infectious! Our Year 4 pupils also planted a range of pots for the village green.
Thursday brought even more excitement with Class 3’s wonderful assembly, followed by the grand opening of our community library. What a sight it was to see our Year 6 pupils serving afternoon tea to residents and dignitaries with such grace and pride. The visit from our local police added another layer to our understanding of community support.
Friday rounded off our week perfectly with Year 6 completing a litter pick around our village – truly leading by example.
Our pupils have genuinely embraced the concept of doing things for others and the wider community. This week has been transformative in building relationships beyond our school gates and making us more visible within our village. The sense of purpose and pride our children have shown has been remarkable to witness.
