Last week, we were thrilled to host a Voice 21 Open Morning that truly showcased the incredible oracy work happening across our school. Colleagues from schools throughout Devon, Cornwall, and Somerset joined us to explore how we’ve woven oracy as a golden thread through every aspect of our learning.
Our visitors spent a fascinating morning observing lessons, engaging with leaders, and witnessing first-hand how talk is central to our educational approach. From Maths to PSHE to Geography, they saw a remarkable range of talk tactics and groupings that bring learning to life.
We were immensely proud of every pupil and staff member who demonstrated their exceptional oracy skills during the morning. The visitors were treated to an oracy assembly where Mrs Roper led an exciting game of Pointless with our house teams – a brilliant example of how we make learning engaging and interactive.
This half term, we’re focusing on the linguistic strand of the oracy framework. Vocabulary is taking centre stage in every lesson, challenging and supporting our pupils to expand their language and communication skills.
The feedback we received was truly amazing. It’s incredibly rewarding to support colleagues from various educational settings and share our approach to developing confident, articulate learners. We’re delighted to be supporting educational colleagues beyond our local area and showcasing the innovative work happening at Cockwood Primary School.
