Year 3,4,5 and 6 pupils were lucky enough to experience a virtual reality workshop last week. The workshop included Class 1 visiting mountains and volcanoes around the world and Class 2 children exploring a range of famous landmarks in London and across the UK. This innovative approach to learning took the children on a whistle-stop tour of places around the globe and allowed them to experience total surround viewing of key sites.
Class 1 used the experience to inspire some fabulous short story writing about a volcano erupting.
‘Suddenly, the ground rumbled as the deadly lava came travelling down the volcano at speed; the children were alone. “Help!” they chorused, their voices scratchy as the black ash filled the air.’
‘My heart was beating out of my chest, I had to run for even a small chance of survival. The crumbling rocks were falling at an alarming speed. Why did it have to end like this? I tried to run but couldn’t. My legs were stuck. I was frozen in fear!’
‘ After a long and arduous climb, Tom finally reached the summit. Suddenly, his body froze with fear; the ground was trembling, cracks were appearing in every possible place. He knew what was going to happen next!’
