What a wonderful moment we shared last week when our youngest pupils had the opportunity to watch the magnificent British Railways Standard Class 8 steam locomotive, 71000 “Duke of Gloucester”, travel through our area towards Exeter. The children were absolutely thrilled, waving enthusiastically as this unique and specially restored train passed by.
We took the opportunity to teach our pupils about this remarkable piece of railway history – how this locomotive was saved and painstakingly restored, and that it’s the only one of its kind in existence. Their excitement was infectious, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we’ve inspired a few budding engineers amongst our youngest learners! These real-world experiences bring learning to life in such special ways.
