Mrs Roper and three of our brilliant Year 6 pupils were invited to present at the Sustainability and Climate Change Conference at Sandy Park this week – what an honour!
This year at Cockwood School, we have truly embraced Environmental Citizenship as our focus, and it has been wonderful to see how we can work alongside our local community to make our school, Cockwood, and Devon a better place for everyone. Our pupils had the fantastic opportunity to share all the amazing initiatives we have undertaken this year with delegates from across the region.
They spoke passionately about our visit to Farmwise, where we discovered how farming helps to protect and support our beautiful countryside. They shared memories of our nature walks within the village, where we took time to notice the incredible beauty right on our doorstep. Most excitingly, they presented our collaborative work with the Woodland Trust to plant the Cockwood Copse on the edge of our Village Green.
The children demonstrated exceptional presentational skills throughout, showcasing their learning through the oracy framework and Voice 21 principles. We hope our presentation inspired other schools to incorporate nature education into their curriculum and encouraged them to think outside the box when working with their local communities to support meaningful projects.
