Summer Whole School Trip to Exmoor
Staff and pupils enjoyed a fabulous day out exploring Haddon Hill and Wimbleball Lake on Exmoor. The children took part in a range of activities linked to science and art. These included a bug hunt in the woods, sketching and drawing the local landscape and finding out about the lake’s water storage facility.
Volunteers from the national park came and helped guide the groups and their local knowledge was invaluable. The children were fascinated to see the view from the top of Haddon Hill and have the key landmarks pointed out to them.
When one group walked down the steep hill to the dam they were lucky enough to be allowed to walk across and see it from all angles. The dam has recently been closed to the public whilst it underwent necessary repairs. The children felt it was like a scene from James Bond as the security cameras moved and followed our every move!
The children found out the importance this lake has in storing enough water to supply Taunton and Exeter areas with its daily requirements.
One group of younger children joined a local art group and sat for over an hour simply sketching the amazing scenery.
Children were fascinated to find out about the local wildlife and bugs found lurking on the moor.
A very big thank you to the Exmoor National Park for making this trip possible- a wonderful location and a wonderful treat for the children.
