Four children from class one took part in a poetry slam at Dillington House near Yeovil. Our pupils performed ‘Macavity the Mystery Cat’ by T.S.Eliot in front of a large crowd of children and teachers from all over the South West.
The published poet, Tony Mitton, gave recitals of his latest poems and the everyone enjoyed his question and answer session. Using this event as our inspiration the following week was ‘Poetry Week’ across all three classes. Every class studied a range of Tony Mitton’s work and we shared his poems and our own in assembly.
The girls took part in a variety of workshops including ‘ bubble making’. They enjoyed afternoon tea in the old stables and contributed to a wall of original poetry.
