Fair Trade Presentation-October 2012
Pupils from Cockwood School spent an evening discussing how they had worked towards achieving fair trade status for the school at a meeting with parents, the community and the Dawlish Fair Trade Society.
They were able to explain activities they had taken part in over recent months from blind testing to hosting visitors to the school. We will continue to work towards improving the lives of farmers in developing countries by working towards the Fair Trade Award this year.

Fairtrade Fortnight
On Friday 8th March the School Council held a cake sale and challenged parents to donate Fairtrade cakes. With the money raised the school will donate half to the Fairtrade Foundation. On Wednesday 13th of March we went to Westcliff School in Dawlish. We went there to meet a Peruvian man called Oscar Salazar, who is the chairman of Cooperative Agraria Cafetalera (the fairtradecooperative in Pangoa, Peru.) Oscar grows coffee beans, produces cocoa, bananas, oranges, potatoes and honey. We tried smelling the coffee beans and tasted chocolate too! He showed us a presentation all about coffee growing and how Fairtrade helps to sustain his plantation and also help the workers and their families in the local community. When we returned to school we got together in an assembly and shared what we had learnt from Oscar. During Fairtrade fortnight we were donated some Fairtrade food from Tesco superstore in Newton Abbotsome of which we donated to Westcliff School who, as with Cockwood School, are aiming to achieve Fairtrade status. With the rest of the produce Sally made us some lovely chocolate and banana cakes, these cakes helped to raise money during Comic Relief.
