On Friday 1st May, Ratcliffe School hosted the first Key Stage 2 Boccia Competition to be held within the Dawlish Learning Partnership. The idea was to invite local schools together to learn how to play Boccia and then to have a friendly competition which would involve teams playing against each other in a knockout competition.
Boccia is an inclusive seated bowling game and involves two teams playing against each other to bowl their balls as close to the ‘jack’ as possible.
The event proved to be a very positive experience for all teams involved and all pupils seemed to enjoy the calm, relaxed atmosphere associated with the game. The practice session gave pupils the opportunity to develop their skills and get used to the playing area, this was then followed by a ‘knock out’ competition which added some excitement to proceedings.
In total 6 teams took part representing Ratcliffe, Cockwood, Westcliff and Dawlish Community College. A special mention must be given to Ratcliffe B team who won the competition but also a very big WELL DONE to all those who took part and made the afternoon so successful.
