One of the ways we bring our values to life is by encouraging our pupils to be ‘stewards of the countryside’. This ethos was recently exemplified during Class 1’s visit to the Farm Wise event, where children had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of farming and explore the importance of agriculture in our local area.
- The children touched, felt, and even smelt how farms work, gaining a deeper understanding of the role of farming in Devon.
- They learned about the wealth of food that comes from local farms and the environmental benefits of sustainable farming practises.
- Hands-on activities, such as testing soil, holding newborn chicks, and sitting in a tractor, ignited the children’s enthusiasm for the countryside and the diverse career paths it offers.
This enriching experience aligned perfectly with our school’s vision, allowing our pupils to develop a strong connection to their local environment and the vital role it plays in supporting our community. We will continue to build on this foundation, encouraging our children to appreciate the natural world around them and become active participants in its stewardship.
We believe that by fostering a deep respect and appreciation for our rural setting, we can empower our pupils to become the next generation of countryside ambassadors. Through engaging, hands-on learning experiences like the Farm Wise event, we aim to inspire our children to consider the importance of farming, environmental conservation, and sustainable land management.
As we move forward, we will continue to seek out opportunities to connect our pupils with the natural world, instilling in them a sense of responsibility and a desire to make a positive impact on their local community and the wider environment.
