Cockwood Primary School came together to commemorate the 80th anniversary of VE Day. The School Council orchestrated a truly memorable afternoon, blending historical learning with joyous celebration
Each class delved into the past through engaging History lessons, followed by a delightful street party on the playground. Mrs Roper, Head of School, shared excerpts from the school’s log book, offering glimpses into Cockwood’s experiences during World War II. Pupils learned of Pearl Morgan, the school’s first evacuee, and the challenging times when air raids forced the school to close.
The playground was a sea of red, white, and blue, as pupils showcased their talents with spirited dances to ‘Bugle Boy’ and the ‘Jitterbug’. The atmosphere was electric, with everyone savouring the delicious cakes prepared by our dedicated staff.
The highlight of our celebration was undoubtedly the thrilling fly-past of two bi-planes, this unexpected treat perfectly captured the spirit of the day, connecting pupils to the jubilation felt 80 years ago.
The VE Day commemoration was a poignant reminder of the school’s rich history and the importance of coming together as a community to honour significant moments in time.
