At Cockwood Primary, we believe in providing our pupils with a wealth of opportunities to broaden their learning experiences beyond the curriculum. This term, our Class 3 students have embarked on an exciting unit in Art called ‘Playful Making’, where they have been exploring the world of sculpture using a variety of mediums.
Hands-On Exploration
The children have been enthusiastically learning about different famous statues, including the Statue of Liberty and Christ the Redeemer. They have had the chance to experiment with paper folding and twisting to create 3D sculptures, as well as working together to build large-scale sculptures using bricks and boxes. Some students even chose to create their own sculptures using play dough, shaping them into the form of their hands.
Nurturing Creativity and Imagination
This project aligns perfectly with our school’s vision and values, which emphasise the importance of creativity, reflection, and respect. By engaging in these hands-on, imaginative activities, our pupils are not only developing their artistic skills but also learning to work collaboratively, think critically, and express themselves in unique ways.
As the term progresses, we look forward to seeing the incredible artwork our students will continue to create. Keep an eye on our website for updates and glimpses into the creative world of Cockwood Primary School.
