Class 2 had a brilliant day on Dartmoor using their practical Geography skills to make a survey of the East Dart River at Bellever. The weather was kind to us (it only poured with rain once!) We measured the flow of the river at different points; we made a field sketch; we identified the location of photos on a map using grid references and we made a transect of the river (we liked this bit best because we got to stand in the river!) It was great to use some geographical equipment out in the real world: we used a compass to find North and we took measurements using trundle wheels, tape measures, metre sticks and stopwatches. We loved having the chance to practice using our topic vocabulary. The children were perfect (they always are!) and learnt so much from this outdoor learning experience.
