Class 1 have been learning about the Tudor period this term. The children enjoyed a visit to St Nicholas Priory in Exeter where they had a chance to step back in time and experience life in Exeter during this period of history. Everyone got the chance to work in the kitchen, play shovel-board and dress-up in Tudor attire.
After lunch the children performed extracts from Mr William Shakespeare’s plays to entertain the Master of the house.
Some of the children made butter using the traditional method of beating double cream vigorously and then separating the buttermilk from the solid until a butter pat was formed.
The children had a tour of the house and found out some interesting facts about Tudor society. They adhered to Tudor etiquette during luncheon and followed the Master of the House’s instructions.
All the children enjoyed reciting extracts from Shakespeare, including the prologue to Romeo and Juliet, the final speech of Prospero, from The Tempest and Macbeth’s soliloquy.
