The ‘Make £5 Grow’ initiative, part of the Virgin Money programme, challenged our young entrepreneurs to create their own businesses. Each pupil embarked on this exciting journey, tasked with designing a product and developing a comprehensive business plan. The project culminated in a Christmas Enterprise Fair, which our budding business owners promoted through various channels, including social media, posters, and leaflets.
This enterprise project holds a special place in our school calendar, serving as a vital platform for our pupils to acquire essential life skills. From budgeting to understanding profit and loss, the experience has been invaluable. Over the course of a half-term, our pupils demonstrated remarkable resilience and patience as they produced prototypes, made adaptations, and refined their products.
The Christmas Enterprise Fair was a resounding success, bustling with activity and showcasing an impressive array of seasonal products. From aromatic candles to delectable sweet treats, handcrafted pottery to crocheted bees, and from stylish hair accessories to homemade chilli jam, the variety was truly astounding. The pupils’ creativity shone through in every item, with potpourri and preserves rounding out the delightful selection.
We were honoured to welcome Councillor Rosie Dawson to the fair. Her presence added an extra layer of excitement as she engaged with our young entrepreneurs, asking insightful questions about their products and processes. This interaction not only boosted the pupils’ confidence but also gave them a taste of real-world business presentations.
The success of this project extended far beyond our expectations, Class 1 pupils raised an astounding profit of over £1100. This extraordinary achievement is a testament to their hard work, creativity, and entrepreneurial spirit. The funds raised will contribute significantly towards their residential trip planned for June 2025, making this accomplishment even more meaningful.
This project has been an incredible learning experience for our pupils. It has taught them the value of teamwork, the importance of planning, and the rewards of perseverance. Moreover, it has given them a glimpse into the world of business and finance, skills that will undoubtedly serve them well in their future endeavours.
Projects like these exemplify the innovative and holistic education we strive to provide at Cockwood Primary School.
