Last week the children in Class 2 were immersed in Science, as they embarked on a special Science Week extravaganza of activities, mixing Music and Science together to celebrate British Science Week.
The children firstly went to Shaldon Zoo, where they had a fantastic time looking at the animals, finding out about their habitats and diets, and also creating some artwork. They then came back to school to create super fact files on their favourite animals from the day. Following this, the children were very lucky to take part in a zoom meeting with Zak Showell, director of Shaldon Zoo, who answered lots of questions for the children about what it was like to be a zoo keeper, and which were his favourite animals. The children then had an exciting song writing workshop with composer David Haines, who taught the children several ‘Science’ songs, and then worked with the children to create a very special Class 2 song named ‘Shaldon Zoo’.
To finish this experience, the children then performed their Science songs and the very special ‘Shaldon Zoo’ song to parents in the hall.
The children worked so hard throughout this fortnight, and we were so very proud of their song writing skills and super singing! A big thank you to British Science Week https://www.britishscienceweek.org/ for supplying a grant to enable us to take part in these activities, and a big thank you to David Haines for coming to Cockwood School and creating the super song!
Here are some photos from the experience, as well as some videos from the performance.
