Last Thursday we celebrated anything and everything British in our school. Children came in dressed in red, white and blue and Sally put on a very British Brunch for lunch, including amongst other things Sausages, Scrambled eggs, Waffles and of course Sticky Pudding!
Class 1 reviewed the facts around the European Union Referendum and discussed the Ins and Outs of the campaign. They held a vote in the afternoon which resulted in 25 Remain and 5 Leave votes. While some children were watching the all-important England football match in the afternoon, the remaining members of Class 1 came up with a fantastic short play about the Suffragettes, a women’s organisation which fought for the women’s right to vote in the late 19th/early 20th centuries. The Class 3 audience enjoyed the performance so much, they requested for it to be performed a second time!
Class 2 learnt all bout British Values such as democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith. And in Class 3 they looked at British landmarks, such as Buckingham Palace, Hadrians Wall and Stonehenge, which they junk-modelled during the morning. In the afternoon they found out all about the key members of the Royal Family and made up invitations to the Queens 90th Birthday, crowns and had a go at making the Union Jack flag.
All in all, a great time was had by everybody!
