As part of our building on community links, following on from We Are Ivy Week, our cast from the upcoming production of Joseph visited the residents at Sefton Hall Nursing Home. It was such a special afternoon, with our pupils sharing a selection of songs they’ve been learning and bringing some real joy to the residents. We were incredibly proud of how our pupils performed. For many of them, this was their first opportunity to sing in front of a proper audience, and they rose to the occasion beautifully. The feedback from the residents was absolutely lovely – you could see the genuine delight on their faces as they listened and joined in where they could. After their performance, the pupils were treated to a welcome ice lolly to cool down, followed by a wonderful opportunity to chat and spend time with the residents.
What struck us most about the afternoon was how naturally the conversations flowed between the generations. Our pupils were genuinely interested in hearing the residents’ stories, and the residents were equally enthusiastic about getting to know our young people. This kind of intergenerational connection is such an important life skill for our pupils to develop, and it’s clear that both groups benefited enormously from the experience. The residents were absolutely delighted to have some enthusiastic youngsters brighten their afternoon.
The link we have now forged with Sefton Hall feels truly magical. It’s mutually beneficial in every way – our pupils gain invaluable experiences and develop their confidence and empathy, while the residents enjoy the energy and warmth that our school community brings. We’re hoping to arrange another visit before the end of term, and we are already looking forward to seeing what this partnership will bring.
