What a wonderful morning Class 2 had at Dawlish Warren! Our pupils had the opportunity to step outside the classroom and experience learning in a real outdoor environment, which is such a valuable part of their education.
The morning was structured around two key areas of the curriculum. First, the pupils took on the role of geographers, examining both the human and physical features of the landscape around them. They observed how the land is used and created their own sketch maps – a practical skill that brings geography to life in ways that a textbook simply cannot.
After a well-deserved snack break, the focus shifted to biology. Our pupils became field scientists, exploring the incredible variety of invertebrates living in three distinct habitats: the meadow, the pond, and the woodland. This hands-on approach to learning allows pupils to develop a genuine understanding of the natural world and the interconnectedness of different ecosystems.
Experiences like this are at the heart of what we do at Cockwood Primary School. They inspire curiosity, encourage observation, and help our pupils develop a real love of learning.
