What a wonderful opportunity we had last week when local children’s author Luke Marchant visited Cockwood Primary School. The pupils were absolutely delighted as he read extracts from his first book, The Narzat, bringing the story to life right before their eyes.
Luke shared fascinating insights into his creative process, explaining where his ideas came from and giving us a sneak peek at his new story, The Narzat and the Shifting Shadow. The children were full of curiosity, asking thoughtful questions about what it takes to become an author and how books get published – it was lovely to see their genuine interest in the craft of writing.
Many pupils had brought copies of his books into school, and there was real excitement as they queued to have them signed and receive a personal message from Luke himself. These are the moments that truly inspire our young readers and writers.
What struck us most was how this visit opened the children’s eyes to new possibilities. Lots of pupils have gone away determined to read more of Luke’s work, and we are sure some are already dreaming of their own writing adventures. Experiences like these remind us of the power of storytelling and the importance of bringing authors and their worlds into our school community.
