What a wonderful day we had celebrating World Book Day! On Thursday 5th March, our school community came together to mark this special occasion, and it was truly magical to see pupils dressed as their favourite storybook characters or offering us creative hints to guess who they might be. The day was filled with book-related activities, and pupils also joined in with an online national assembly, connecting them with young readers across the country.
This year, we made the decision to send World Book Day vouchers home digitally, making it easier for parents and carers to purchase books online or simply scan the QR code when visiting their local retailer. We hope this has made the process more convenient for families.
As a school, we remain committed to fostering a love of reading because we know that reading is the single most important thing that parents can do with their child to support their learning journey. It serves as the core gateway to learning, enabling pupils to access the full curriculum, develop essential language comprehension, and boost academic attainment across all subjects. Beyond academics, reading enhances vocabulary, strengthens cognitive abilities, fosters empathy, and supports emotional well-being by stimulating imagination.
We are delighted to share that our pupils are already working incredibly hard to reach their reading targets by Easter. In just the first week of March, they have quizzed 75 books and read an amazing 830,746 words! It is fabulous to see pupils so keen to engage with the Accelerated Reader programme and to witness their genuine enjoyment of reading.
World Book Day has introduced our pupils to a range of new books, and over the coming weeks, you’ll see new titles appearing in our library at the request of our readers. This is reading at its best—pupil-led and pupil-inspired.
