Exploring the Farm-to-Fork Journey

November 28, 2024Admin

At Cockwood Primary School, we believe in providing our pupils with a well-rounded education that extends beyond the classroom. As part of our ongoing commitment to becoming “Environmental Citizens,” our Year 3 class recently embarked on an exciting trip to Pizza Express in Exeter.

Discovering the Pizza-Making Process

The children were eager to learn more about the journey their food takes from farm to fork. At Pizza Express, they had the opportunity to not only learn about the history of pizza but also to get hands-on experience in making their own pizzas. The pupils were fascinated to discover the various ingredients that go into a pizza and the sustainable practises that Pizza Express employs to source their produce.

Connecting Curriculum to Real-World Experiences

“The visit to Pizza Express was a fantastic way for our pupils to apply their learning about food production and sustainability,” said Mrs. Ward, the teacher who organised the trip. “The children were able to see firsthand how a business like Pizza Express is working to reduce its environmental impact and provide healthier options for their customers.”

Upon returning to school, the pupils were eager to share their newfound knowledge with their classmates and teachers. They enjoyed eating the pizzas they had made, which were a delicious addition to their school lunch.

Fostering a Commitment to Sustainability

This educational visit aligns perfectly with our school’s vision and values, particularly our focus on happiness, ambition, perseverance, and reflection. By providing our pupils with opportunities to engage with the local community and explore real-world sustainability practises, we are nurturing their sense of environmental responsibility and empowering them to become active, informed citizens.

We are proud of our Year 3 pupils for their enthusiasm and curiosity during this exciting trip. It is experiences like these that help to make Cockwood Primary School a place where every child can flourish and develop a deep appreciation for the world around them.
