We believe that the key to providing children with the very best start to their learning journey is through building caring, positive relationships with pupils and their families from the very beginning.Through home and preschool visits, and immersive taster sessions prior to joining us, our new pupils feel safe and secure, and are able to settle quickly into school life. We offer an open door policy alongside regular workshops and drop in sessions, enabling parents to seek support and guidance, and to feel fully involved in their child’s learning and progress. We use the online platform ‘Tapestry’ to share daily updates with parents through photographs, video clips and comments, giving families a ‘window’ into their child’s day at school.

Pupils are encouraged to develop a love of story and reading through daily synthetic phonics teaching and immersive story-telling. We aspire for all children, regardless of their previous experiences or background, to make excellent progress in their decoding and blending skills, to become confident, expressive readers and exciting storytellers.

We provide opportunities for pupils to explore their world through child led enquiry and outdoor learning experiences such as Forest Schools, and to develop the skills of curiosity, resilience and perseverance in a wide range of contexts.

We promote a language rich environment, in which pupils develop their communication skills and gain the confidence to articulate their needs and share their experiences. We celebrate pupils’ individuality, efforts and achievements, and this is evident in the children’s caring, supportive relationships with each other.
